Quick 6 V is a small scenario pack featuring a half-dozen mixed-bag scenarios originally designed for release at the 2022 West Coast Rumble ASL tournament in Vancouver, British Columbia. It’s the fifth of a series of such packs, which as of this writing in 2024 number six.
This small pack has small scenarios; there is one action that is (barely) medium-sized, while the rest range in size from small to very small indeed. This makes the scenarios in the pack suitable for tournament play (which makes sense, considering their origins), although some of the scenario may simply be too small for the tastes of many players; Q27 (Stand at Sterlin’s Castle), for example, features 7 German squads attacking 4 British squads. None of the scenarios feature OBA, Air Support, or Night rules, which also speeds up play (EXC: one scenario features 3 U.S. 60mm mortars, which may be exchanged for an OBA module per standard ASL rules).
As is common with scenarios designed by George Kelln, the scenarios here tend to be packed with support weapons. In Q29 (Como Ridge), for instance, the 13.5 Australian attacking squads have 11 SW, while the 5 squad/3 crew defending Japanese have 5 SW (incidentally, this scenario provides 3 vehicular crews rather than infantry crews for the MGs, which may be an error).
The scenarios of the pack include:
- Q25 (Encounter at Le Valtru). France 1944. British vs. Germans (SS).
- Q26 (Holtzthum Hold Out). Belgium 1944. Americans vs. Germans.
- Q27 (Stand at Sterlin’s Castle). Italy 1943. Canadians vs. Germans.
- Q28 (Going in Light). France 1944. Americans vs. Germans.
- Q29 (Como Ridge). Bougainville Island 1945. Australians vs. Japanese.
- Q30 (The Tombe Diversion). New Georgia Island 1943. Americans (USMC) vs. Japanese.
The scenarios are small in area as well as forces involved; most take place on an area the size of a half-board. To play all the scenarios, the following boards are required: 9, 36, 43, 71, 10a, and o.
Perhaps the most interesting scenario is Q25 (Encounter at Le Valtru), which pits 10 British quads and 3 Churchills against 7 Waffen SS squads backed up by 2 Panthers. The scenario has blind simultaneous set-up and the first player is determined randomly after set-up. Scenario Q30 (The Tombe Diversion), a PTO scenario set on the island of New Georgia (the next island tackled after Guadalcanal), the Marines must enter via a human wave attack, giving the Japanese a taste of their own medicine.
Assuming one doesn’t mind the idiosyncrasies in size and SW, some of the scenarios here might make an entertaining little diversion.
