Commentary:Note: Critical Hit publishes products at a high volume and its products have a general history of quality control issues. Critical Hit provides no review/evaluation copies and typically prices its products very high. For all these reasons, Desperation Morale no longer acquires all, or even most, Critical Hit products for analysis and write-up on this website.
This entry, then, is not a typical Desperation Morale write-up but rather more of a placeholder and historical marker. If Desperation Morale ever acquires a copy of this product, this placeholder entry will be replaced by a full write-up.
The CWASL Geomorphic Board Modules Series (which includes 3 modules as of this writing), is a version of Critical Hit’s (poor) Civil War variant for ASL that uses geomorphic boards rather than historical maps. Each board takes the form of a 12″ x 18″ glossy unmounted map panel, so they are larger than any regular 8″ x 22″ or 11″ x 16″ geoboards (it is not clear if the hex sizes are the same or different).
The first module contains the rules, charts and counters needed to play the scenarios for it and for other modules. A “No Pieces” version of Module 1 that has no counters, rules or play aids is also available, for owners of Gettysburg: Turning Point: 1863. Both versions also contain 4 12″ x 18″ geoboards and 6 scenarios.
Modules 2 and 3 each provide 4 more boards and 6 more scenarios.
Critical Hit has also made available, for separate purchase, “HotHex” versios of the geomorphic boards, which are essentially large hex versions of the board (with the boards seemingly doubled in size).
